Taking time to enjoy life: #causeimkeepinitreal

Taking time to enjoy life. It's easy for me to write it down but challenging for me to actually do it.

If you've looked at my "highlight reel" aka - my Instagram you might think that I'm always on the go, visiting coffee shops all over LA and attending events. Don't get me wrong, I totally do all those things on the regular but it's only about 20% of my time.
When I'm not being a mama, I'm busy #girlbossing and focusing on werk werk werk. I know that I've mentioned it before on Instagram but for those of you who don't know, I work full-time from home managing all of the PR + Social Media for an amazing brand of baby goods. I absolutely love my job and wouldn't change my set up for A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G. I get to be at home with Ruby (we have an incredible nanny that helps a lot) and I get to work at doing something I love and that truly fulfills me.

I've had a pretty fun career path leading up to landing this "dream" job. A job that I didn't even know existed years ago. Let me just take a minute to thank the internet and social media for creating a need for positions like mine that just years ago didn't even exist. I've always loved to work and strive to do my best in any position I've ever had. Before my current job, I was working at adidas corporate in Portland Oregon doing marketing for the women's graphic tees business. I was Tasked to re-invent the women’s seasonal graphic tee offering, working directly with design to create fresh, trend relevant graphics on silhouettes that ladies would actually want to wear. So rad, right!?! I had to pinch myself a few times over the year while doing this job because it was totally in my wheelhouse. I had already started and ran my own tee shirt company - and I loved everything about the graphic tee shirt process!!

I've been very fortunate to do some pretty fun jobs over the years but none of them were handed to me. It takes lots of hustle and dedication to get where YOU want to be in life. I'm all about hard work and lots of hustle but that's an entirely different post that I can get into later if you all want to hear my voice on that topic.

The moral of the story is that I love to work. Maybe even too much, haha! I have to constantly remind myself to sit back and breathe. Soak up all that is Ruby and let go once in awhile. Last week this hit me like a ton of bricks. After being away in Vegas for work for a few days I missed my little lady so much that I decided to forgo our routine and head off for a day at the zoo. I finished my work for the day early (woke up at 5 am) so that I could take my daughter to see the monkies. She's been obsessing over Monkies for a week so it seemed like the perfect activity. We had a blast and I was so happy that I took the time to really enjoy life.

Being a mother is the most amazing job that I've ever had. I'm so lucky and really do try to remember that but sometimes I have to check myself and make myself soak it in.

pure joy.

This is 30.

I'm officially out of my 20's, eeeek. I blinked and just like that, I'm 30!! Where did the time go? It seems like everyone makes a big deal about turning 30 but I can honestly say I'm SO excited about where I am in my life and about what's to come. I have a job that I love, I have a beautiful family and I'm happy and healthy. In my book, I'm doing pretty damn good! Right?!

We decided to stay at the Ace. If you haven't been to the Ace you need to just go at least once! It's a hip, artsy hotel with stylish rooms and so soooo many vibes. Did I mention that they have Stumptown Cold Brew?! That may or may not be 99% of the reason I decided to stay there! I knew we would spend most of our time at the pool and outside so we opted for the suite with a private patio. It gave us the space we needed to sprawl out and enjoy the desert heat.. aka let Ruby get wild and blow bubbles while we sipped desert facial cocktails. Did I mention that all of the rooms have legit record players? So fun! Ruby and Patrick played the same UB40 album on repeat and we danced and sang like there was no tomorrow. So fun. It was exactly what I needed! If this is just a sprinkle of what 30 looks like I can't wait for the year ahead. I made sure to capture as many moments as possible, a few of my favorites are below!!

When my husband asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday I quickly responded - "PALM SPRINGS PLEASE" ... I wanted a quick trip with my little tribe to regroup and celebrate. It's my happy place. Let me just tell you that Palm Springs holds a special place in my heart. Growing up in Portland, OR we vacationed in Palm Springs EVERY YEAR. It feels like a second home and I never got sick of it - ever! Even now, I could go once a month for the rest of my life and be a happy camper. I just love it so much!
